Kyle & Atticus is back! TCAF was incredible- it was so amazing to meet and see so many people and debut my new comic (The first printing of Seven Stories from the Sea completely sold out!). Now I’m ready to return to weekly updates of Kyle’s journeys and misadventures.

Since you were all so patient with me I’m updating the comic way early. Thank you for your continued support, everyone.

It’s Kyle & Atticus guest week(s)!
I’ve been overwhelmed by work lately so some great friends are helping me out and we’re having a guest comic mini-break! This week’s comic comes from my friend Kory Bing (be sure to check out her comic Skin Deep if you haven’t already).

And while you’re in the mood for checking things out- feel free to take a look at a preview of the first chapter of Seven Stories from the Sea, the comic I’ll be debuting at TCAF. It’s a queer comic about two people growing up by the ocean- I like it a lot, I hope you will too!

REALLY exciting news to go along with this update- Kyle was featured on BitchMedia’s list of Five Best Genderqueer Characters In Comics! Kyle is listed among some really amazing characters and creators. This is a huge honour that took me completely by surprise- I really appreciate it!

Updates might be going a bit rogue next week- my current job + preparing for TCAF has knocked me off my game a bit. Lucky for you I have a great guest comic lined up, though. Thank you in advance for your patience, and thank you all for your support, comments, reblogs, and intelligent thoughtful discussions and conversations in the comments. I cannot tell you all how much it means to me to have such great readers.

Another early update so I can watch the hockey game without worrying about forgetting to update. My comic is entirely people sitting on couches and talking right now, but that will change soon- I promise.

As an aside: I’m starting to put together a zine called Hootenanny - an illustrated tribute to folk music and sea songs. If you’re interested in folk songs and would maybe like to contribute a drawing or short comic check out this post to learn the details!

Kyle & Atticus chapter 2 begins right here right now! A new house/location! It’s still fall! Overcast skies? I am so happy to begin this chapter.

In other exciting news: Kyle & Atticus is the webcomic of the month at Comic Attack.net and I am both thrilled and flattered. Along with the feature, I was interviewed and answered a bunch of questions about myself and the comic, which you can read that right here.

Also: the comic I wrote for Monster Bones (my collaborative project with Kory Bing) is almost completely funded! We have released six pages of the newest Weird Pets comic, which you can read right here. And if you’d like to donate to help unlock the last two pages there’s the link for that, too.

Kyle & Atticus updates resume as normal (every Wednesday) from now on. It’s good to be back!

Hello everyone! It’s been awhile- I hope you’re having a great winter. It’s cold here in Halifax, but I’ve been working hard.

I’m posting today to bring you nothing but good news. For one: the comic will resume in February. Chapter 2 is right around the corner, so mark your calendars because it’s going to be great.

Additionally, I’ve spent the break being busy as all get out- I was accepted to TCAF in December and I am now more than halfway done on a comic I’m going to be releasing for the show! It’s called Seven Stories from the Sea and it’s my first ever short, self-contained comic, all about growing up queer in Atlantic Canada, and I cannot wait to share it with you all. (If you’d like to see more previews/work in progress on it you can check it out here.)

Also- some of you familiar with my work may know that I have a collaborative project with Kory Bing (of Skin Deep) called Monster Bones. I’m happy to announce that just this week we’ve finished a brand new comic! It’s another instalment of Weird Pets- a story about monster people living in Vancouver, British Columbia. We’re ransoming it- as we’ve done for our Monster Bones comics in the past- and we’re already halfway to our goal (when the goal is reached we will release the comic to the public)! You can head on over to monster-bones.com to read our already released comics, and if you’d like help donate and support us and the new comic that would be fantastic.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who read and enjoyed the first chapter of Kyle & Atticus. I didn’t expect the final pages to get the response that they did, and all the reblogs, comments, and messages mean the world to me.

And now chapter 1 of Kyle & Atticus is over I’m sure you’re asking- what’s next?

The obvious answer is Chapter 2, of course! I have already begun work on the next chapter, which is going to start early in the new year. I also have some pretty exciting news, and that is that I made it into TCAF 2013! I don’t know if I’ll be able to take Kyle & Atticus with me to the show, but I am going to be working on another (shorter, self-contained) comic called Seven Stories From The Sea (that is also about gender identity) that will debut for the event.

In the meantime, I have a little festive surprise for Kyle & Atticus that I’m just finishing up and am going to start posting over the next few days.

Thanks again to everyone who read chapter 1. I am really excited to begin posting chapter 2- see you in 2013!

I spent a lot of time on that owl painting in the background and I’m not sure why since it’s only in one panel. Kyle’s mum bought it because it reminded her of her and Kyle. Aw, mums.
